What a tease the beginning of this story.
Such a short book.
Molly gets ordered around by a man she meets in the supermarket.
Than she meets another one who she orders around and finds out he is her childhood crush from when she was 6.
When she is going to meet him again, man 1 shows up and she goes with him.
To do what?
That is not in this book.
Some steaming sex scenes are.

About the Author
Nina Baym (Ph.D. Harvard) is Swanlund Endowed Chair and Center for Advanced Study Professor Emerita of English and Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is the author of The Shape of Hawthorne’s Career; Woman’s Fiction: A Guide to Novels by and About Women in America, 1820–1870; Novels, Readers, and Reviewers: Responses to Fiction in Antebellum America; American Women Writers and the Work of History, 1790–1860; American Women of Letters and the Nineteenth-Century Sciences and most recently, Women Writers of the American West, 1833–1927. Some of her essays are collected in Feminism and American Literary History; she has also edited and introduced many reissues of work by earlier American women writers, from Judith Sargent Murray through Kate Chopin. In 2000 she received the MLA’s Hubbell Medal for lifetime achievement in American literary studies.

Robert S. Levine (Ph.D. Stanford) is Distinguished University Professor of English and Distinguished Scholar-Teacher at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is the author of Conspiracy and Romance: Studies in Brockden Brown, Cooper, Hawthorne, and Melville; Martin Delany, Frederick Douglass, and the Politics of Representative Identity; and Dislocating Race and Nation: Episodes in Nineteenth-Century American Literary Nationalism. Wayne Franklin (Ph.D. University of Pittsburgh) is Professor and Head of English, University of Connecticut. He is the author of James Fenimore Cooper: The Early Years (the first volume of his definitive biography, from Yale University Press), The New World of James Fenimore Cooper, and Discoverers, Explorers, Settlers: The Diligent Writers of Early America. He is the editor of American Voices, American Lives: A Documentary Reader and The Selected Writings of Thomas Jefferson, A Norton Critical Edition, and co-editor, with Michael Steiner, of Mapping American Culture.

Philip F. Gura (Ph.D. Harvard) is William S. Newman Distinguished Professor of American Literature and Culture and Adjunct Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the author of many books, including The Wisdom of Words: Language, Theology, and Literature in the New England Renaissance; A Glimpse of Sion’s Glory: Puritan Radicalism in New England, 1620–1660; Jonathan Edwards, America’s Evangelical; and American Transcendentalism: A History. For ten years he was editor of the journal Early American Literature. He is an elected member of the Society of American Historians, the Massachusetts Historical Society, the American Antiquarian Society, and the Colonial Society of Massachusetts.

Jerome Klinkowitz (Ph.D. Wisconsin), is University Distinguished Scholar and Professor of English at the University of Northern Iowa. He is the author or editor of over forty books in postwar culture and literature, among them, Structuring the Void: The Struggle for Subject in Contemporary American Fiction; Kurt Vonnegut’s America; Literary Disruptions: The Making of a Post-Contemporary American Fiction; and The Practice of Fiction in America: Writers from Hawthorne to the Present.

Arnold Krupat (Ph.D. Columbia) is Professor of Literature at Sarah Lawrence College. He is the author of, among other books, Ethnocriticism: Ethnography, History, Literature; Red Matters: Native American Studies; and, most recently, All That Remains: Varieties of Indigenous Expression (2009). He is the editor of a number of anthologies, including Native American Autobiography: An Anthology and New Voices in Native American Literary Criticism. With Brian Swann, he edited Here First: Autobiographical Essays by Native American Writers, which won the Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers Award for best book of nonfiction prose in 2001.

Mary Loeffelholz (Ph.D. Yale) is Professor of English and Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at Northeastern University. She is the author of Dickinson and the Boundaries of Feminist Theory; Experimental Lives: Women and Literature, 1900–1945; and, most recently, From School to Salon: Reading Nineteenth-Century American Women’s Poetry. With Martha Nell Smith, she edited the Blackwell Companion to Emily Dickinson. Her essays have appeared in such journals as American Literary History, English Literary History, the Yale Journal of Criticism, and Modern Language Quarterly.

Jeanne Campbell Reesman (Ph.D. University of Pennsylvania) is Ashbel Smith Professor of English at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is author of Houses of Pride: Jack London’s Race Lives, Jack London: A Study of the Short Fiction, and American Designs: The Late Novels of James and Faulkner, and editor of Speaking the Other Self: American Women Writers, and Trickster Lives: Culture and Myth in American Fiction. With Wilfred Guerin et al. she is co-author of A Handbook of Critical Approaches to Literature and with Earle Labor of Jack London: Revised Edition. With Kenneth Brandt she is co-editor of MLA Approaches to Teaching Jack London, with Leonard Cassuto Rereading Jack London, with Dale Walker No Mentor but Myself: Jack London on Writing and Writers, and with Sara S. Hodson Jack London: One Hundred Years a Writer. She and Noël Mauberret are co-editors of a series of 25 new Jack London editions in French published by Éditions Phébus of Paris. She is presently at work on two books: Mark Twain Versus God: The Story of a Relationship, and, with Sara S. Hodson, The Photography of Jack London. She is a member of the Executive Board of the American Literature Association and founder and Executive Coordinator of the Jack London Society.

Patricia B. Wallace (Ph.D. Iowa) is Professor of English at Vassar College. She is a contributing editor of The Columbia History of American Poetry; her essays and poems have appeared in such journals as The Kenyon Review, The Sewanee Review, MELUS and PEN America. About the Author

Helmut Schiessel studied physics at the Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany. There he did his PhD with Prof. A. Blumen in the Group for Theoretical Polymer Physics. After graduating in 1997, he worked as a postdoc with Prof. P.A. Pincus at the Materials Research Laboratory, University of California, Santa Barbara. He then was a joint postdoc with Prof. W. M. Gelbart at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and with Prof. R. Bruinsma at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, both at the University of California, Los Angeles. He joined the Theory Group of the Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz in 2000, where he was in charge of a biophysics research project. In parallel, he received his habilitation in theoretical physics from the Physics Department of the University of Konstanz, Germany, in 2004. Since January 2005, Prof. Schiessel has been heading the chair of Theoretical Physics of Life Processes in the Instituut-Lorentz at Leiden University, the Netherlands.

Updates from Third Edition

I have only read the first three chapters so far (on medicine rotation). I have not noticed any significant updates from the third edition. For example, IBD is not updated with biologic treatment options. The book adds a 100 new multiple choice questions, but that is all I have noticed so far.

The book claims a student committee and provided feedback to improve the 4th edition, but it does not provide any specifics. It might be worth it to hold onto third edition. I will update the review as I see changes.

As far as physical quality, pages feel cheaper than third edition.

I have now read about half the book and there are a few updated I have noticed.
1) They added a few lines about the new oral anticoagulants (i.e. apixaban)
2) BP guidelines have been updated with JNC 8

other mistakes have not been fixed like pneumonia severity index

Without a Doubt, This is a Gold!!

Internal medicine is THE foundation of 3rd year and beyond in medical school. If you look into Uworld for step 2, 1350 out of 2250 questions (60.93%) are from medicine alone. Therefore, I can't emphasize enough the importance of mastering internal medicine.

I compare Step up to Medicine for internal medicine as I would compare first aid for step 1. The book has everything you need to know for internal medicine clerkship. I trouble I had in 3rd year is finding the right resource. Some resources have way too much information not needed for 3rd year level (ex - uptodate), some have not enough (ex - case files book). If you rely only on your patient to teach you medical knowledge, it will largely be insufficient as you won't see patient with multiple diseases (you might never have a patient with rickets, AML, a-fib etc). This book in contrast has everything you need to know for internal medicine clerkship.

I love this book as much as I loved first aid for step 1. Here are the pros:
- Information is presented in concise form but is complete. If you opt out for case files or other smaller books, you might miss out on important information you need to know.
- It doesn't have unnecessary stuff you don't need at 3rd year. Ex - drug doses.
- The book is in color which makes reading fun.
- It has empty border in left and right so you can annotate the book
- There are "quick hit" and "clinical pearl" sections scattered throughout that are very high yield

If you are doing 8 wk traditional internal medicine clerkship, it will be hard to finish this book in that limited time. But give your best shot. Start studying this book a few weeks before you start your clerkship. It has 12 chapters total and 479 pages. If you can finish 1.5 chapter each wk, you will need exactly 8 wks to finish the book.

This book is GOLD.

If you have a good understanding of this book, all other clerkships will be easier. Being good in medicine helps you in all other clerkships.

Halfway through the text impression

Full of information, much more gained from reading this as compared to something like Master the Boards. Serving as a pretty good complement to the Kaplan review series for me. So far, haven't found any errors with up to date guidelines for diagnosis or therapy. Will update after completing the book. It probably goes without saying, but if you can't tolerate bullet point style text then this isn't for you.

So so good and funny, all ages can appreciate.

Our household didn't think this book would ever be released! My boys (12 & 8) loved the first one and could not wait for the second, it did not disappoint! My 12yo actually read it twice and giggled through it just as hard the second time! So, when can we expect book 3???? (please) My boys like it better than Big Nate even.

Funny, but ultimately disappointing

Niles and Miles are back. This ranking team, known as The Terrible Two, are ready for another year of pranking their school, especially their power-loving principal, Principal Barkin. Unfortunately, one of their pranks leads Principal Barkin to losing his job, and now he's been replaced with a much more stern principal, who is out to shut down all pranking.

I straight-up loved Book 1. It was so fun! I frequently recommend it to my 4th and 5th grade students who are looking for something funny to read, and so far they have all loved it. So my students and I were super excited for Book 2. The first third or so of The Terrible Two Gets Worse totally lived up to my expectations. I Laughed Out Loud on almost every page.

Unfortunately, I have to break the news to them that I didn't end up loving it, and that I'm not sure I'll get a copy for our classroom. Here's why -

The pranks in the first book were elaborate, creative, and harmless. There were awesome diagrams accompanying several, and the authors did a brilliant job of incorporating the cows of Yawnee Valley. The first book was outrageous, and that's why so many of us love it.

This second installment simply doesn't do the same things. The pranks are too typical, easy for kids to duplicate, and far from harmless. They put peppers in people's drinks, pull the fire alarm, and drop someone's pants. I've seen this book referred to by another reviewer as mean-spirited, and I totally agree. To make it worse, there are no cows! And no elaborate diagrams! Where is the creativity? Where is the outrageousness?

Overall, I'm hoping that this is just a Second Book Slump, and that the next installment will revive the potential of Book 1.
